IBM begins offering social networking program

International Business Machines Corp. began selling programs that give employees the ability to communicate through online social networks and blogs. The software is aimed at companies that want people to work together securely using the Internet, according to a draft of a speech made in Boston by Ambuj Goyal, general manager of the information management unit of IBM’s software group. IBM will compete with Microsoft Corp.’s SharePoint, a program that lets employees collaborate on projects. (Bloomberg)
